GUIDELINES AND TIMETABLE

Vipassana Meditation Retreat

WAT THATON INTERNATIONAL MEDITATION CENTER

CAPACITY: 10 persons (Recommend booking 7 days  in advance)

The MINIMUM number of days for each individual retreat  is SEVEN (7) days.

The retreat is widely open for both beginner and experienced meditators. On the retreat, all meditators are expected to keep silence at all times except when giving meditation reports. Please keep talking to barest minimum with fellow meditators.  Meditators need only bring conservative clothing. For clothing, both men and women please wear white shirt/blouse and dark colored pants eg. black, blue, grey.  Please bring personal hygiene accessories, flash light, mosquito repellents, umbrella,  and essential medications. Please NO SMOKING.

Retreats are ongoing year round. There are no advance registrations required and you may come at any time you wish but we do request you give us at least 7 (seven) days prior notice.  English speaking interpreter is always available.

INSTRUCTIONS AND INTERVIEW

When there are only one or two English speaking students you will be learning Vipassana meditation on a one-to-one basis with the vipassana meditation instructor.  All instructions  and discourses for foreign meditators will be in Thai language.

You sit and walk with other students who may speak only Thai at the meditation center.  At some point every day, the teacher will sit with you privately and give you instructions in Thai language (English interpreter is always available)    You are free to ask questions, so in many ways this is better than being in a larger class.

Individual interviews with the meditation instructor are scheduled at regular intervals to enable the student to report their meditational experiences and to receive necessary guidance by their teacher for further progress. In this way each student will receive personal attention and guidance throughout the entire course of meditation and will have an opportunity of gaining sufficient personal knowledge and experience of Vipassana Meditation.

Please practice and use only the meditation methods that your meditation instructor of Wat Thaton Meditation Center teaches you.   No using other types of meditation method that is not taught by the meditation instructor of this Center.

DONATION BASIS  FOR LESSONS

Donations for teaching/lessons of vipassana meditation to the meditation instructor is up to the foreign  meditator. There are no set fees. The basic principle of the donation is to give what you can afford to generously give.  It is customary in Thailand that Theravada Buddhist Vipassana meditation teachings/lessons are freely given away by Buddhist monks as a gesture of goodwill to all. In the spirit of giving away Vipassana meditation lessons, our Meditation Center will hopefully be a means for those who have been helped to help others. Any donations for teaching vipassana meditation are greatly appreciated.
